Product bundles, subscription boxes and custom packing
Kitting combines finished products into a defined set. It can also involve arranging those products in branded packaging and adding inserts in a specific sequence. Projects to discuss with our team include:
- Product bundles: several finished items packed together as one set.
- Subscription boxes: a planned assortment of products and inserts for each shipment cycle.

Plan the kit before the work begins
- List the contents. Provide the SKU and quantity of every product in the kit. Show each kit version separately, including size, color or assortment differences.
- Set out the packing instructions. Explain the packing sequence, product placement, protective materials and inserts. A photo or diagram can help show how the finished kit should look.
- Coordinate inventory and packaging. Share quantities and expected arrival dates for products, boxes and inserts. A missing component can delay the whole kit, even when the other items are ready.
- Review assembly and order fulfillment. Discuss expected volume, storage needs, order information and the target shipping window. Confirm how the kits will be prepared and how orders will reach the warehouse before work starts.
Your packaging and inserts
Custom packaging and branded inserts are available as part of ShipBuddies fulfillment. Share the packaging dimensions, materials and any tissue, cards or inserts your kit needs. Include special folding, placement or presentation instructions so we can account for those steps in the quote.
Review the packaging supply and arrival plan alongside the products. Do not assume that boxes or inserts are included in an assembly price.
What affects a kitting quote?
A simple bundle and a presentation box with several packing steps require different amounts of work. A quote needs to account for the number of components, kit versions, packing steps, materials and expected volume.
Review assembly labor separately from receiving, storage, outbound fulfillment and carrier shipping. The finished kit’s dimensions, weight and destinations also matter when estimating shipping costs.
Kitting questions
How is kitting different from ordinary pick and pack?
Pick and pack selects products for an order and prepares them for shipment. Kitting adds a defined grouping or assembly task, such as combining several products and an insert into the same set. Our kit and kitting glossary entry explains the term in more detail.
Should kits be built ahead of time or as orders arrive?
The right plan depends on expected demand, storage requirements and whether the kit contents will change. Tell us which approach you need. We will review the project and confirm the assembly process and costs before work begins.
What should I provide when a kit changes?
Send the revised component list, quantities and packing instructions, plus the date the change should take effect. Identify any older kit versions or remaining components so they can be included in the planning discussion.
